Iron Chef Morimoto's Ramen Might Be Coming To Park Slope

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Today's secret ingredient is — or at least might be — ramen.

Celebrity restauranteur and Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto could be bringing the next outpost of his New York ramen restaurant to Park Slope.

An eatery called "Momosan Ramen Brooklyn" has applied for a liquor license at 76 St. Marks Avenue, between Flatbush and Sixth avenues. The name is the same as Morimoto's first ramen restaurant, Momosan Ramen, which he opened in Manhattan two years ago.

The new outpost would take over an empty storefront that once housed American eatery Flatbush Farm, which closed in 2017, and Barn, a pub that shut down a few years before that.

The ramen spot would be Momosan's first location in Brooklyn and second in the city.

If it is anything like its Manhattan spot on Lexington Avenue, the restaurant will offer a variety of signature ramen bowls along with classic and unique appetizers like edamame, pork gyoza or crispy pig ear. The flagship Manhattan restaurant also offers 20 sake options, six of which are signature samplings from the iron chef.

Morimoto is most well known for his regular spot on the Food Network's "Iron Chef America," which he joined in 1999 after spending a year on the original Japanese version of the show, according to his website.

Before that, he was an executive chef at popular sushi restaurant Nobu. He opened his first restaurant of his own in Philadelphia in 2001 and has opened several others around the world since then, including the Momosan Ramen spot in 2016.

Momosan did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the new outpost.

The liquor license application will face Community Board 6's Permits and Licensing Committee next week and will then have to go to the full board and the State Liquor Authority for final approval.
