Nitehawk Cinema Close To Opening In Historic Park Slope Theater

The company has started advertising for staff.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN – The doors of Park Slope's historic Pavilion Theater may re-open sooner rather than later. The new owners of the Nitehawk Cinema, which will take over the landmark spot, haven't set a date to open but have started seeking employees as they put the finishing touches on the Prospect Park West building.

The company, which opened its first location in Williamsburg in 2011, posted job openings for the new dine-in theater this week. Applicants can apply to be a line cook, runner/busser or one of two servers.

"We are inching closer to opening our new Prospect Park location, but an official date hasn't been announced just yet," Ashton Pina, the company's public relations manager, said Tuesday.

Pina said more information about the opening should become available in the upcoming weeks.

Updates to the 1920s building also seem to be drawing to a close.

Nitehawk recently put up its controversial red-and-black marquee sign on the outside of the building. The large sign had faced pushback from community board members earlier this year, who called it "ugly," but it was ultimately approved by the Landmark Preservation Commission.

Inside, Nitehawk put "finishing touches" on the theater's lobby just a few weeks ago, according to a post on the theater's Facebook page.

A decoration made by Masterworks Plaques for the lobby will pay homage to the building's previous owners, The Sanders and The Pavilion theater, the post shows.

Nitehawk bought the theater for $28 million back in 2016 after a plan to turn it into a condo development was abandoned. Company owners have said the new spot will include 650 seats, seven screens, two kitchens and two bars once it opens.
