PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A poké restaurant on 7th Avenue is one of the best places to eat in Brooklyn, a recent poll found.

Pokéworks, at 258 7th Avenue, won the first week of News 12's Food Fight competition, which lets readers and viewers nominate and vote on their favorite spots to eat in the borough.

The Hawaiin cuisine chain, owned by Michael Pennartz and Oleg Rud, was up against other Brooklyn favorites like Nick's Lobster House on Flatbush Avenue, Little Forno on Bay Ridge Avenue and Blake's International Restaurant on Church Avenue.

The eatery got more than 8,840 votes in its favor, leading runner-up Prospect Provisions by almost 700 votes.

The restaurant, established in 2015, has said its goal is to offer healthier, more environmentally-friendly food options to Brooklynites with its "sustainable seafood-based model." The owners have plans to open four new locations in Brooklyn in the next few years.

Pokéworks also might sound familiar to Patch readers since it was recently approved for a new installation of street seats at its 7th Avenue spot.

The six-foot wide seating will be open from March until December in front of the Poke bowl chain through the city's Street Seats program, which began in 2015. The seats are installed in the roadbed along the curb line or on wide sidewalks and can be used by anybody from the public, even those that are not a patron of the business they are in front of.

Pokeworks is responsible for the maintenance and storage of the street seats.

News 12's Food Fight competition holds weekly votes for the best restaurants in the area. The next winner will be announced March 13, the outlet said.
