SOUTH SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A Chinese restaurant on Seventh Avenue has been closed by the health department for roaches and other violations, records show.

Szechuan Garden, found between 16th and 17th streets, was given 42 violation points during an inspection with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene last week. Any score above 28 points requires that the department close a business.

The most serious violation the eatery received was because inspectors found live roaches in the restaurant. They also discovered that the restaurant's facilities were not "vermin proof."

The restaurant advertises itself as a "compact eatery and takeout" spot that prepares traditional Sichuan dishes and other Chinese favorites. It seems to have recently opened, according to a "Grand Opening" sign on its website.
