2-Month-Old Boy Critically Injured In Suffolk Crash

The mother of the baby, her three other children and the driver of the other car involved were also hospitalized following the crash.

NORTH PATCHOGUE, NY - A 2-month-old boy was critically injured in a two-car crash in North Patchogue on Saturday night, according to Suffolk Police.

Deliela Gonzalez, 33, of Copiague was driving a 2017 Honda sedan southbound in the right lane of North Ocean Avenue, south of Shaber Road, with her four children in the car. She then tried to make a U-turn in front of a southbound 2007 Mercedes-Benz sedan that was behind her in the left lane at 7 p.m. The Mercedes struck the Honda causing both vehicles to slide across the roadway onto the northbound shoulder.

Gonzalez’s infant son was transported via North Patchogue Rescue Ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue. The baby was then transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

Gonzalez and her three daughters, 13, 8, and 4 years old, were transported to Long Island Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Mercedes, Jeremy Layton, 33, of Islip Terrace, was transported to the same hospital with minor injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
