
A 4-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool in Shirley Saturday night, police said.
According to police, Justin McConville was with his mother at a backyard barbecue at the home of his mother’s friends on Alcolade Drive East when the tragedy occurred.
The host of the barbecue found the boy at the bottom of a 4-foot above-ground pool at 7:11 p.m., police said.

The boy was pulled from the pool and the family started to perform CPR until an ambulance arrived.
Justin was transported via Mastic Beach Rescue to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate.
