Breast Cancer-Screening RV Coming To East Patchogue
The Stony Brook Cancer Center's mobile mammography van will be at St. Joseph the Worker Church in East Patchogue on Sunday morning.
PATCHOGUE, NY — Stony Brook Cancer Center's 40-foot breast cancer-screening RV is heading to East Patchogue. The mammography van will be at the St. Joseph the Worker Church on 510 Narragansett Ave. on Sunday from 10 a.m. t0 4 p.m.
Highly trained and registered radiologic technologists will perform screenings, and clinical breast exams will be performed by registered nurses who specialize in breast health, according to a tweet by the Suffolk County Police Department.
The van has a comfortable waiting area, private dressing room and its own exam room. Certified radiologists at Stony Brook Hospital review the mammography images.

To be eligible for a mammography in the van you must meet each of the following criteria:
- Must be a woman and at least 40 years old.
- No mammographs in the last year.
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- No implants or breast issues, such as a lump or discharge.
- Never diagnosed with breast cancer.
- Office visit within the past year with a gynecologist, primary care physician or internist who is willing to accept the results of the screening.
Additionally, on the day of the appointment, it is advised not to wear deodorant, perfume, powders, lotions or cream of any kind in your breast area. Also, make sure to bring a photo ID and insurance card. Those who do not have health insurance will be processed through the Cancer services Program of New York, if possible.
