Brookhaven Town To Launch New Ticket Amnesty Program

The program, which will offer a reduction in overdue fines, is set to start this week, and go on until June.

TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN, NY — The Town of Brookhaven announced a new amnesty program for unpaid parking tickets that would begin this week. Between May 15 and June 30, the Brookhaven Parking Violations Bureau will offer a 50 percent reduction in overdue and/or outstanding fines and penalties for summonses issued before April 15, 2020. According to town officials, the program is expected to generate $75,000 in revenue for the Town.

More than 300 residents participated during the last parking amnesty program conducted by the Town in 2017. The amnesty program does not include monies owed from judgments.

"This program gives people the opportunity to pay the fine at a discount and clear their debt without the need for a hearing," Supervisor Ed Romaine said. "I urge anyone who has not paid their fines to do so as soon as possible and take advantage of the discount. When the Amnesty Program ends, we will pursue those who continue to ignore their responsibility and they will be required to pay the fine with significant penalties."
