Colonel Josiah Smith DAR at Longwood Estate
The Colonel Josiah Smith Daughters of the American Revolution gathered at Longwood Estate for their Christmas Brunch on December 14, 2021.
On December 14th ladies of the Colonel Josiah Smith Chapter of the National Society of the Dauhters of the American Revolution (DAR) met for their Christmas Brunch at the Longwood Estate in Ridge. Presents for the children of a family affected by Covid were cheerfully given, as well as donations to the Toys for Kids program run by Brookhaven Town. This lovely historic home is over 200 year old was a Smith family property from the mid 1700's until 1968. William Smith and his bride Eleanor Jones was an early owner of this land that operated as a farm. They raised 10 children at this home. William was a Brookhaven Town Supervisor from 1829 to 1834. Since 1974 it has been a property of the Town of Brookhaven and is open to the public. You may learn more about this estate by visiting! Call 631-924-1820 about arranging a tour. The Col. Josiah Smith daughters do have an objective of historic preservation and they have an appreciation for meeting in this lovely home.
