Compact Parking in New Village Plan Discussed at BID

Several parking spaces in TRITEC New Village Plan smaller then village code allows, trustee says.

Compact car parking and conditions in the proposed TRITEC New Village plan were discussed at Tuesday’s Business Improvement District meeting at .

The , which includes the creation of 291 apartments and 509 parking spaces to be placed in the location of the abandoned Sweezy’s department store on Main Street, is scheduled for vote at a special Village Board of Trustees meeting Thursday at Patchogue Village Hall at 7 p.m.

Village Trustee Gerald Crean said that conditions may be placed on whatever decision is made Thursday night.

“If it happens to pass, the preservation of the old Carnegie Library will be one [condition] and there will be a few others in regards to parking,” Crean said.

The possibility of defining compact car parking in the village code was brought up during a recent work session due to a number of the parking spaces in the planned subsurface parking structure being smaller then what the code currently allows Crean said. This would need a variance, or possibly a change in code, from the zoning board.

The vote will be the only item on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting. The meeting is open to the public but will not have a public comment section.
