The police officer was charged in 2017 after he was accused of pointing a handgun at three women in Patchogue.
PATCHOGUE, NY — A Suffolk Police officer was found not guilty on Tuesday following an incident in 2017 where he was accused of pointing a handgun at three women in Patchogue, his attorney Anthony LaPinta confirmed to Patch.
In November 2017 Gregory Hanrahan, then 32-year-old, was off-duty when he became involved in an "interaction" with the women on West Main Street, according to Suffolk Police. Hanrahan pointed a handgun in the direction of the women, police said.
Following the incident Hanrahan, a two-year member of the police department assigned to the Seventh Precinct, was suspended without pay and his handguns were seized, police said. He was charged with three counts of second degree menacing.

According to a report in News12, surveillance video from the scene shows that Hanrahan was reacting to one of the women coming up to him and grabbing him where his gun was holstered, in order to protect the gun.
