Donation Boxes Broken, Cash Stolen From Patchogue Church

PATCHOGUE, NY — Police are looking for the thief or thieves who broke eight donation boxes at a Patchogue church and made off with $100 in cash.

The heist happened July 16 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church near North Ocean Avenue and state Route 27, or Sunrise Highway, Suffolk County police said. Photos showed someone pried open a small wooden door at the base of the boxes to access the money.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
