Lecture by Alina Fernandez

The Office of Multicultural Student Life at St. Joseph’s College is pleased to welcome Alina Fernandez, daughter of former Cuban President Fidel Castro, to its Long Island Campus on Monday, April 11. Ms. Fernandez will speak to students about her book, Castro’s Daughter: An Exile’s Memoir of Cuba in the McGann Conference Center.

Ms. Fernandez grew up in a politically tumultuous Cuba during the 1960s and 70s as the daughter of Fidel Castro. In the 1980s, she rebelled against the government that her father had created, and in 1993, dressed in disguise as a Spanish tourist, she escaped Cuba to Spain. In 1998, Fernandez wrote the autobiography Castro’s Daughter: An Exile’s Memoir of Cuba to explain what her life had been like living in Cuba under her father’s regime.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
