Evans Reflects on Mayor Campaign

Candidate Richard Evans says he supports Pontieri's win; hopes to volunteer in Patchogue.

Mayor candidate Richard Evans lost the Patchogue Village Mayor race Tuesday night to , but as the sole candidate running without trustee candidates he was glad to have had the chance to put out his message.

"Coming into it I understood it was an uphill battle," Evans said. "I was running really late, I spent about maybe $700 in my campaign versus large large numbers, but I got to say the issues and I would hope to set an example maybe for some younger people."

Evans said that he now possibly could get into volunteering in Patchogue and still hold to principles and issues that he campaigned for.

Evans admits that he wasn't focused as much on getting the vote numbers up as he was on getting his message out, such as at the .

When asked about the issue of the Four Corners, Evans said that there were other Village issues that should be looked at.

"I was hoping they wouldn't only focus on that, we really do have a village of issues," Evans said. "On the Four Corners, despite what the other candidates said, a lot of it is out of our jurisdiction, it's in ."

Evans said that supporting troubled small businesses and working on boosting the school district were also important.

The only negative part Evans acknowledged during his campaign was when levied against him based on his past records were being thrown around.

Despite the loss, Evans said that he does support the winning candidates and wishes the Residents First candidates the best as well.

"I would just want to congratulate obviously the Mayor and Patchogue 2012 and I would also like to congratulate even Residents First on everything," Evans said. "I appreciate all the residents coming out and voting and everyone was really hospitable," Evans said.
