Boy Wonder is like Kick-Ass without the comedy. It is a no holds barred look at a teenager who decided to take justice into his own hands. Sean Donovan , an introverted and studious kid, witnesses his mother’s murder at a young age. The circumstances, at the start of the movie, are a mystery. As this disturbing plot unfolds the horror that drive Sean becomes clearer.
The plot of this movie is fairly simple. The director uses traditional storytelling devices to great effect, but he manages to keep it realistic. He packs the emotion in, and he makes you feel for Sean as a person. One or two scenes more could have made this movie perfect. But instead the director rushes towards his climatic conclusion. So the movie falls short of greatness.
My only other major criticism, is that the movie could have made better use of music and sound. Classical music plays a significant role in the plot, and it could have been used better in the movie. For a realistic take on the superhero genre, Boy Wonder accomplishes a lot. I highly recommend you take it out.
