Newest Bro-Band Rises Up Pop Charts

Brothers Ethan and Nico may be the best bro-band since Jonas Brothers and Hanson. They’re currently rising up the pop music charts with “Tell Everybody”, their debut single.

Filled with an upbeat energy, catchy hooks and clapping beats, the song is a light dance track on par with today’s biggest boybands.

What makes BSIDE stand out from the others is they are 100% hands-on in the creative musical development of their songs: they write, compose, produce, record, edit, mix and master their own songs. “We don’t need another person handing us music, we create our own,” says 17-year-old Nico, the youngest of the brothers.

We sat down with Nico for the inside scoop on BSIDE.

Growing up, did you and your brother have aspirations to pursue music careers?

Nico: Oh no, our parents prohibited it. They wanted us to be bookkeepers like them, and they still do, or they did until recently. Just this week, our dad sent out a WhatsApp to all his friends, saying, “Check out my sons’ new music video.” We were shocked! It’s the first sign of support from our parents because they wanted us to focus on school. We study hard, so they can’t complain.

At 19, Ethan is a young man with real world problems while at 17, you’re still in high school. How are your different life stages reflected in your music?

Nico: Ethan often tells me I don’t understand things yet. He insisted on writing the lyrics for one of the songs because he said I couldn’t get what it’s like to have a girlfriend in the same way as he could; so I composed the music for that one.

What attracts you to pop stardom? The money? The women?

Nico: (Laughing) Neither. It’s about the music.

Did recording the album independently allow you more creative freedom in your songs than if you had recorded with a big label?

Absolutely. Wave Music gave us the equipment and (computer) programs that we needed to create, but the songs are all our own.

Do you know enough about the music industry to make important decisions on your own?

We read Billboard every day, especially me, and we study Spotify charts every morning. Our manager guides us well, but we are in charge of our own careers, and having each other, we can usually tell if the advice we get from the label is good or not.

Will your album be all pop like ‘Tell Everybody’?

Most of the tracks on the album are pop/dance but there are some different styles. For instance, one song called “I’ll Be Everything” has a more down tempo, urban-funky, cool tune that we hope will show our diversity.

What is it that you’re hoping to ‘Tell Everybody’?

Nico: We’re hoping to inspire people. The song is meant to be light and happy. It came from a good place when we were writing it. We were very happy, and it just flowed. We hope that energy resonates to anyone who hears it. “There ain’t nobody to tell me no” is meant to encourage listeners that nothing should hold them back. “There ain’t nobody to run this show” is meant to let people know that they are in charge of their own destiny.
