Last Minute Local Holiday Gifts

Need a last minute gift that is unique and local?  Patchogue Patch has searched Patchogue shops for unique gift ideas and came up with a list that is sure to please. 

at 76 North Ocean Ave in Patchogue has been selling "gently used" books at about half off the cover price since 1996.  According to owner Diane Sander, the store has a hefty collection of Nora Roberts and James Paterson.  Chock full of popular modern authors, the store also has classic books, such as "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac, cookbooks, non-fiction and science fiction books.  Side Street Books does not offer gift wrapping, but it is a great gift location for anyone looking to get a gift that is good for the earth and good for your pocket. 

If mom or grandma likes cameo brooches, a popular jewelery item that originated in Italy, then  at 1 East Main St in Patchogue might be worth the trip.  O'Neills has a collection of broach cameos priced from $90 to around $400. 

For the Irish or Irish-at-heart, at 21 East Main St in Patchogue has an extensive collection of Irish-themed items: everything from claddagh rings to Irish clothing.  One unique gift is a $40 flask with a shot glass that can be removed from the center of the flask; another is a corkscrew with an Irish emblem for $25.  Fire Department and Emergency Services-themed beer steins are $41. 

When in doubt, a gift certificate is always appreciated.  Why not get a certificate from one of Patchogue's new shops?  at 83 South Ocean Ave offers gift certificates in $5 denominations, perfect for the bus driver or school nurse.  Gift certificates can be spent on anything in the store.  The menu changes each day, but YoChi always serves yogurt.  YoChi also serves different muffins each day including chocolate chip and red velvet. 

at 27 East Main St is a Patchogue staple.  Known throughout Long Island as the place to get lingerie and swimwear, Blum's also has a collection of sweaters and sweat suits.  The sweaters are $19.99 and up and come in blue, lavender, red, tweed cocoa and other colors and styles, some with beading and some plain.  The sweat suits are $14.99 and up for the tops and $14.99 and up for the bottoms -- a major steal because they were marked down from $42 and up.
