LI Trick-Or-Treater, 5, Eats Cannabis-Laced Gummies, Hospitalized
The child ate the laced gummies that he got trick-or-treating, and he was released from the hospital on Tuesday, police said.

YAPHANK, NY — A 5-year-old Shirley boy was treated at a local hospital Tuesday after eating cannabis-infused gummies that he receieved while trick-or-treating, Suffolk police said.
The gummies were “in packaging with similar branding to Starburst candy and clearly labeled as medicated and containing cannabis,” according to police. They were collected by the child while trick-or-treating in the southern portion of the 7th Precinct in Shirley, police said.
“The re-sealable package had been previously opened but the packaging did not appear tampered with,” police said in a statement.

This is the second incident involving a Long Island child receiving Halloween candy.
On Nov. 3, a girl found a razor blade in a candy bar that she received in a trade with other classmates from the Stony Brook and Setauket area. She was unharmed.
Police urged parents to check their children’s candy and read the labels. Anyone who finds candy that has potentially been tampered with or contains drugs should call 911, police said.
