UPDATE: Police Release Details on Long Island Shooting
Police say detectives do not believe the shooting was a "random act."

HOLTSVILLE, NY – A 29-year-old Brentwood man was seated in the backseat of a 1999 Honda Civic at a Holtsville intersection when he was shot in the head early Monday morning, Suffolk Police said.
An initial report that the man, who police did not name, was the driver of the vehicle was incorrect.
The shooting occurred at the intersection of North Ocean Avenue and Long Island Avenue when someone fired multiple shots into the Honda at 12:40 a.m.

A police spokeswoman told Patch that detectives "aren’t sure if a vehicle pulled up and someone stayed in the car and fired the shots, or if a car pulled up and a person got out of the vehicle before shooting."
What detectives are quite sure of is that the shooting was not a "random act."
