Mascot Dock Partly Re-Opens

East end of dock now open to the public, damaged section of dock fenced off.

The east end of Patchogue's Mascot Dock is now open after in August suffering extensive damage from Tropical Storm Irene.

"The Village has re-opened the east end of Mascot Dock," Village Trustee Joseph Keyes told Patch. "The DPW (Department of Public Works) crews cleaned up the dock, repaired potholes, and fenced off an area that was virtually untouched by Irene."

Keyes said that while the Village has not yet received funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to repair and rebuilt damaged sections of the dock, they have received a go-ahead to open up safe areas to the public.

Boat owners at the dock have previously had to vacate the dock due to the storm and had their September and October 2011 fees refunded.

Areas of the dock that remain damaged from the storm are still off-limits. The rest of the dock is open to people for walking, crabbing and fishing.
