Edison Aguilar killed in motorcycle crash on Route 112 (newsline.com) — A 20-year-old Patchogue resident, Edison Aguilar, died after his motorcycle collided with a turning Toyota on Route 112 at Southaven Avenue in nearby Medford on Saturday morning. Suffolk County Police say Aguilar was heading north when the southbound car turned left, and he was later pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital, with legal experts noting the heightened risks motorcyclists face on local roads.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Shirley Motor Vehicle Crash (longisland.com) — A Shirley pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck while crossing Montauk Highway and was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk in Patchogue for treatment. Suffolk County police impounded the vehicle for a safety check and are asking anyone who saw the Friday night crash to contact Seventh Squad detectives with information.

Spotted lanternfly infestation concerns Long Island farmers (newsday.com) — Spotted lanternflies are surging across central Suffolk County, with experts noting a growing band of activity from Patchogue through Calverton and Riverhead that could threaten vineyards and other crops. Local farm leaders describe this season as the worst yet, while Cornell and federal officials prepare a wasp-based biocontrol that may be released next year, urging residents meanwhile to kill the insects when they see them.
