Photos: South Ocean Middle School Moving Up

The Class of 2016 prepares for high school.

Over 160 eighth grade students from moved up in last night's ceremony held at the .

As Principal Linda Pickford congratulated the class, she reminded students that anything is possible.

"Remind yourself that you can. Set a goal, tell yourself what you want to accomplish each year in the high school and you will achieve that goal, which is what all of us wish for each of you," Pickford said.

Many students were also honored for academic and community achievements at an awards ceremony held a few weeks ago. However, some students could not be awarded until the conclusion of the Regents exams. Those students are Aimee Mullins for the Earth Science Award, Maximilian Junge for the Integrated Algebra Award, Bailey Logan for the Earth Science Award and a Laureate Medal for the National French Contest, & Jared Remien for the Earth Science Award and the Integrated Algebra Award. Jared Stoller for the Earth Science Award and a Geometry Award. Tiffany Meier was honored the Student Citizenship Award by Village of Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri.

Forty students this year were also members of the National Junior Honor Society.

Students were presented with a certificate and a medal as they crossed the stage, symbolically moving from middle school to high school.

Other student accomplishments mentioned include:

The Earth Science Award receipients each earned a score of 96% on their Regents exams.

The Regents exam score for the Integrated Algebra Award was 93%.

Student Jared Stoller's Geometry test score has not yet been calculated but he has earned a 97% average this year. The class is a 10th grade class taken at the high school that he took in the eighth grade.
