It was a difficult week for the boys and girls hoops teams at Patchogue-Medford High School as both lost three games in League I play. The varsity squads each lost to Sachem East, Floyd and Commack to round out a tough week.
Boys Still Seeking First League Win
With the three losses this past week, the Raiders have yet to win a game league play. The team posted their lowest point total of the season in a 67-26 loss to Sachem East, on Jan. 31.
Later in the week, the Raiders had another season-first as they allowed 90 points in a 90-41 loss to Floyd. In the game Patchogue’s Ahmad Williams scored 21 points.
Some progress was made later in the week as Pat-Med lost a tough game to Commack 54-47 this past Friday. In the game, the Raiders had three players score in double digits with Williams, Severio Ford and Matt Vogel leading the way.
The game against Commack marked the 12th consecutive game in which Williams scored at least 10 points. He is leading the Raiders with 211 points for the season—nearly double of the next closest scorer, Ford (126).
Girls Suffer Similar Fate
The girls basketball team also had a difficult week, which started with a 46-15 defeat at the hands of Sachem East. Later in the week, the team was more competitive but still came up short against Floyd, losing 54-40.
On Friday, the story appeared to be changing for the Raiders in their game against Commack. Pat-Med went to the half with a two point lead but was outscored by Commack 11-4 in the third quarter on the way to losing 42-33. Commack’s Kerry Haller. scored nine of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to lead her team to victory.
