South Country Officials To Host Capital Reserve Vote Discussion

District voters will decide on approving funds for security camera and door upgrades, as well as a new turf field.

BROOKHAVEN, NY — The South Country Central School District Board of Education will discuss the capital reserve vote at the district office on Dunton Avenue in East Patchogue on Oct. 12.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The vote, scheduled for Oct. 18, requires the approval by the district's voters for use of the capital reserve fund, which was established by voter approval in May 2016, school district officials said. Proposed projects include security upgrades to camera and door access systems across the district, as well as the replacement of handrails and interior doors at the high school, according to district officials.

Officials also propose to replace the turf field, which they say is "near
the end of its useful life."

Paying for the projects with capital reserve funds means there will be no cost to taxpayers and the district will receive reimbursement from the state in the form of building aid for a portion of the project costs, school district officials said.

Middle School gymnasium.
