Town of Brookhaven Makes Changes to State of Emergency

Officials have made some amendments to the town state of emergency issued for the coronavirus pandemic in June.

TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN, NY — Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine made some changes to the town State of Emergency issued during the pandemic last week. The declaration was originally issued on June 20 to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus within the town.

As of Sept. 17, all open building permits existing between March 1, 2020 and May 27, 2020 will automatically be extended by 75 days from the date of expiration.

In addition, the Executive Order regarding drive-in establishments dated June 11, 2020 was extended until December 31, 2020.

The provision states that for these drive-in establishments, only one food truck or mobile concession is allowed for each drive-in movie event, which is located in a specifically designated and approved area, as long that all queue lines have floor markings at a distance of six feet apart to ensure social distancing.

However, no amusement/carnival rides or games shall be permitted for any events. Attendees are required to stay inside their cars at all times except to use the restrooms or make a purchase from the food truck/mobile concession. No outdoor seating is permitted for viewing purposes.

In addition, all Town departments will be fully staffed on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While Brookhaven Town Hall remains closed to the public, it is strongly recommended that residents who have business with the Town to use online services or contact Town personnel by phone or e-mail.
