Zero Tolerance DWI Policy On Super Bowl Sunday: Suffolk Sheriff
The 205 DWI arrests in 2021 was "a touchdown for keeping our roadways safe, but a fumble for those behind the wheel," Errol Toulon said.
YAPHANK, NY — Suffolk Sheriff Errol Toulon warned Super Bowl fans not to get behind the wheel of a car drunk on Sunday, citing a zero tolerance policy.
In a public service announcement on the department's Facebook page on Saturday, Toulon noted that deputy sheriffs arrested 205 people on charges of driving while intoxicated in 2021, calling it "a touchdown for keeping our roadways safe, but a fumble for those behind the wheel."
"While the consequences of a DWI are costly, it is nothing compared to the devastation caused to loved ones or victims after a crash," Toulon said. "Remember, if you drive under the influence, you put yourself and all others on the road at risk."
