Mr. Maturo Goes To Washington

Orangetown Councilman Michael Maturo will be in Washington D.C. Friday to meet with President Barack Obama and members of his administration.

Outgoing Orangetown Councilman Michael Maturo will meet President Barack Obama and members of his administration Friday in Washington, D.C.

Maturo is going to the White House as a member of the People for the American Way Foundation's Young Elected Officials Network, who were invited to discuss issues facing states and local communities.

"Orangetown faces the challenges of many suburban communities, including job-focused intelligent growth, merit-driven innovation in public schools, and infrastructure upgrades," Maturo said through a press release. "I wlll press the administration to deliver opportunities for municipalities like ours to help ensure suburban communities are included in the national agenda."

The Young Elected Officials Network aids over 600 progressive elected officials from all 50 states.

"We are thrilled to be abel to take the observations and concerns of so many progressive elected officials to President Obama and the administration," said Andrew Gillum, Executive Director of the Young Elected Officials Network. "These young leaders are on the front lines of progressive change, fighting for the values of fairness, equality and opportunity in their home communities.

"President Obama, a successful grassroots leader himself, understands that national movements are built by individual citizens and their elected representatives working hard to bring about positive change in their own communities. We’re tremendously proud to be able to help the president get to know our communities and discuss the issues affecting states and localities across the country.”

Mautro will have the opportunity to meet with members of the administration and will attend a reception with the president.
