Nominate a Pearl River Resident for the Rockland County Civil and Human Rights Hall of Fame

Nominations are being solicited for the Rockland County Civil and Human Rights Hall of Fame.

“This annual program recognizes local residents who have made significant contributions to the advancement of equality, diversity, human and civil rights in Rockland County,” said County Executive Ed Day. “We are proud to continue this tradition by selecting a new group of deserving individuals who have made lasting impacts on our communities.”

The nomination deadline is Jan. 17.

The Civil Rights and Human Rights Hall of Fame was launched in 2003 as part of the County’s Commission on Human Rights 40th Anniversary celebration.

Any individual, living or deceased, who has made long-term contributions to human and civil rights in Rockland County is eligible to be nominated. Led by Commissioner of Human Rights S. Ram Nagubandi, a panel of volunteers who represent a cross-section of Rockland’s multi-faceted communities will select the 2015 inductees. The panel will consider a nominees’ experiences, worthy activities and causes that furthered human and civil rights in Rockland.

The 2014 inductees into the Civil Rights Hall of Fame included Gloria and Arnold Botwinick, Dr. Oscar P. Cohen, Wylene Branton Wood and Albert Holland, Jr. (posthumously).
