Small Business Spotlight: Genovesi Web Design and Marketing
Meet Robert Genovesi, a Blauvelt entrepreneur helping businesses and nonprofits enhance their image online and offline.

BLAUVELT, NY — Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this ongoing series — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about new ones and the ones we may not know that well.

How did you come up with the name?
I started out just freelancing so it was just my name, as with any freelancer. I wanted to transition away from the freelance world into a business I could develop and grow, one day employing local talent. I started out designing websites, then added branding. The name needed to reflect that in an obvious way so I just called it what it actually was and added my name for familiarity from my freelance days: Genovesi Web Design and Marketing.

Why start a business in this town?
I've always been a Rocklander, growing up in New City. When my wife and I had our first child we fell in love with Blauvelt so we bought a house there. Over 21 years later we still love it here. So when I decided to build a business I designed it to serve the community in order to enhance not just our lives but also those of our neighbors.
What business are you in?
We help local businesses increase their business through custom websites that act as a salesforce, as well as assisting them to develop effective branding to enhance their image online and offline.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
Our highest priority in business is to create happy customers. I know we can't please everyone, even though we do our best. So the biggest challenge comes in those rare times when even through exhaustive efforts, a customer is less than satisfied. Sometimes there is nothing we can do, and I find that hard to deal with. But we just keep going, improving our game for the next customer.
What’s been your proudest achievement since opening?
Our proudest achievements come every time a customer tells us how happy and satisfied they are through enthusiastic recommendations. My wife can tell you, I just always want to make sure our customers our happy, period.
How does your business give back to the community?
We are very proud to have been asked to design, create and host the website for the local Nyack charity, Penguin Plunge (penguinplungeny.com). Their mission is to help the families of seriously ill children to meet their medical and support costs as they focus on their children’s health. They just celebrated their 10 year anniversary and continue to be a wonderful asset to the community. In addition we've been able to design marketing materials to assist them in their cause.
