This Year - Give Thanks and Give a Turkey! Center for Safety And Change Launches Annual Turkey Drive

ANNUAL TURKEY DRIVE UNDERWAY

Center for Safety & Change, Rockland County’s only not-for-profit agency solely dedicated to serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault launched its annual Turkey Drive today. Members of the community wishing to donate a kosher* or non-kosher turkey can drop it off at the Center from 9am - 5pm Monday through Friday. The last turkey donations will be accepted at 5pm on Tuesday, November 25th. The Center is located on 9 Johnsons Lane, New City, NY 10956.

All donated turkeys will be distributed to the women and their families who currently use the Center’s support services. Residents of the Center’s Emergency Shelter will also benefit from turkey donations as they will receive a full Thanksgiving dinner, prepared for them by the Center’s Resource Council.

“As a result of donations made through our annual Turkey Drive, we are able to provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and create an environment of safety and community for women and their children on this holiday”, says Venesia Defrank, Director of Residential Services.

About Us:

The Center for Safety & Change was established in Rockland County in 1979 as an emergency residential shelter with a 24-hour hotline service for survivors of domestic violence. Since then, it has grown into an organization that offers a vast array of comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families, as well as victims of other serious crimes. These services include advocacy, legal accompaniment, children’s services, support groups, sexual trauma services and special victim’s advocacy with the Rockland County District Attorney’s office, as well as prevention programs such as the Center’s Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program.

The organization and its Executive Director Emerita, Carolyn Fish, have received numerous awards, including the Rockland Economic Development Council Service Agency Award, Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Community Service from former Governor Mario Cuomo, Special Achievement Award from the New York State Crime Victim’s Board, Certificate of Appreciation for Service to Crime Victims from the United States Department of Justice, Agent of Change Award from the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Outstanding Professional Award from the Rockland Development Council.

The Center for Safety & Change accepts online donations at www.centerforsafetyandchange.org. The Center’s 24-hour Hotline is 845-634-3344.
