HIP-HOP LEGEND DARRYL MCDANIELS AND CHILDREN PERFORM IN TALENT SHOW AT THE NEW YORK FOUNDLING’S “CAMP FELIX”

(August 16, 2012, New York, NY) – Boys and girls from The New York Foundling, one of the oldest and largest child welfare and family services organizations in New York City, showed off their talents with hip-hop star Darryl McDaniels of Run DMC at the Camp Felix Open House in Putnam
Valley on August 16th.

Since 2006, The New York Foundling has teamed up with The Felix Organization/ Adoptees for Children, a non-profit whose mission is to provide new and enriching experiences to children who are growing up without parents, to create the camp for girls and boys, ages 8-13, currently in The
Foundling’s care.

Along with typical camp activities such as arts and crafts,
swimming and campfires, Camp Felix offers activities
that promote teamwork, build character and foster leadership skills. Campers participate in creative writing, modern dance, drama and theater workshops, and
compete in the annual Camp Felix Olympics, which celebrates the diversity among the campers.

Joined by The New York Foundling Executive Director and Rockland County native Bill Baccaglini, Co-founder
of the Felix Organization Sheila Jaffe and Felix supporters, nearly one hundred campers participated in the open house that included a welcome ceremony and
barbeque. The children also showed off their dancing, singing and drama skills in the annual open house talent show.

“Without Camp Felix, many of these kids would never have the chance to attend an overnight summer camp, especially one in which they are surrounded by peers who come from similar upbringings and counselors who have received intensive training on the issues these kids face. Many of our campers return year after year and it’s heartening to see how they have grown and matured,
serving as role models for their younger peers.” said Bill Baccaglini, a Rockland County native and The Foundling’s
Executive Director.
