Cortlandt Building Vietnam Vets Memorial

Town officials want names of local veterans from that war, to be honored at the dedication and included on a plaque.

Cortlandt is in the process of designing and constructing a Vietnam Memorial on the front lawn at Town Hall.

Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi said officials want to honor the men and women veterans from that war for its 50th anniversary.

"This memorial will be a living tribute to those who defended our Country and to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms in America," she said in her announcement. "This monument will be in addition to our lovely Purple Heart Veterans Memorial and in our courtyard where we fly the flags of every branch of military service. We also have a glorious Veteran’s Memorial at our Cortlandt Waterfront Park by the Hudson River in our hamlet of Verplanck."

Town officials are asking for Vietnam veterans or family members of Vietnam veterans from Cortlandt and our area to please contact the Supervisor’s office at lindap@townofcortlandt.com or call (914) 734-1002 or write a letter to 1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567 so that these veterans can be recognized at the dedication and for their names to be placed on a plaque. The town would need the name, branch of service and rank.

The Cortlandt Regional Veteran’s Committee meets monthly at Town Hall and its chairman, Willy Nazario (a Vietnam Veteran) was just named to be the National Commander of the Purple Heart Veterans organization, Puglisi added. "Willy Nazario represents the pride in Country that is reflected in all of our Veterans throughout the years."
