Counterfeit: Police Seek Man They Say Tried to Use $100 Bill

The owner of a food store in Cortlandt reported the incident to state police.

CORTLANDT, NY — New York State Police are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify the pictured man. They're investigating the attempted passing of a counterfeit $100 bill back in May. A shop owner reported that the man came in and tried to pay with the bill but left after he was told it was fake.

State police said they were contacted May 12, 2017 by the owner of 123 Food Stop, located on Route 9A in Montrose, who reported that this man entered the store and attempted to pay for his merchandise with a counterfeit bill.

The man left the store after he was advised that the bill was fake and was last seen driving south on Route 9 in a black sedan. The vehicle is believed to be a black Acura or Toyota sedan.
