Exposed To Hep A In Peekskill: Get Vaccine, Health Officials Urge

Recent patrons of The Space or Fin & Brew at the Factoria in Peekskill were exposed to Hepatitis A; county officials offer free treatment.

PEEKSKILL, NY — Westchester County health officials reiterate their call for recent patrons of the Factoria or Fin & Brew to get preventive treatment against Hepatitis A. Anyone who ate or drank at Fin & Brew restaurant at Factoria in Peekskill on Feb. 15, 16 or 19, or at a private party at The Space, an event space there, on Feb. 15, was exposed to Hep A through a contagious worker.

Preventive treatment is only effective if given within two weeks of the last day of exposure. Therefore, those who ate or drank on Feb. 15 must receive preventive treatment by Feb. 29. Those who consumed food or beverages on Feb. 16 must receive treatment by March 1 and those who ate or drank there on Feb. 19 must receive treatment by March 4, county health officials said.

The health department will offer free preventive treatment at the Health Department Clinic, 134 Court Street, White Plains. Although walk-ins are welcome, advance registration is highly recommended. To register, go to www.health.ny.gov/gotoclinic/60:

Restaurant patrons who were exposed also can seek preventive treatment from their own health care provider. No one with a prior history of Hepatitis A vaccination or Hepatitis A infection needs to be treated.

Editor's Note: Health officials clarified their message about Fin & Brew patrons, explaining that patrons who ate or drank there Feb. 15, 16 or 19 should seek treatment. The restaurant shares an ice machine with The Space event venue at the Factoria, so patrons who ate or had drinks at the restaurant on the day the contagious worker was at the Space, or on Feb. 16 or 19, are being offered preventive treatment in an abundance of caution. Patrons elsewhere in the complex are not at risk because the facilities are separate.
