Homestyle Bakes for the New York Yankees
The New York Yankees commissioned Homestyle Desserts to create a Yankee/Hard Rock Café themed cake for its Old Timers weekend celebration.
Reggie Jackson, Rich “Goose” Gossage, Lou Piniella, Joe Torre and about fifty other Yankee “old timers” will be presented with a unique cake tonight created right here in Peekskill by
Homestyle was commissioned to create a custom celebratory cake for the New York Yankees 65th annual Old-Timers’ dinner tonight at the Hard Rock Café. The three-tiered cake features 28 Old Timer baseball cards along the bottom tier, the famous Hard Rock Cafe marquis and rock band paraphernalia on the second tier, and a simple pin-striped third tier. A good old-fashioned baseball sits atop the cake.
“It is exciting to be doing our third-year challenge for the Yankees," said Rose Sanca, owner of Homestyle Desserts.

The bakery created a one of a kind Trophy Cake for the Yankees Old Timers game last year as well, and a cake shaped as a yacht for the team's 2009 Old Timer cruise event. Once Sanca recieved the request for the cake from the Yankees in April, she got to work on the conception.
"As soon as they were back in action they emailed us," Sanca said. "I thought the cards were such a good idea because it really makes it about the players, it personalizes it."

This year's cake was made by seven Homestyle employees, including Eileen Lawter, who carefuly selected the 28 baseball cards to feature on the bottom tier. They couldn't feature all the participating Old Timers, so Lawter considered which would look best based on the colors, placement of the players and other factors.
The New York Yankees official 65th annual Old-Timers’ Day is on Sunday, June 26 at Yankee Stadium. Ceremonies will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a traditional Old-Timers’ game to follow, according to Yankees.com. Both will be aired on the YES network.
