Indian Point 3 Shut Down After Generator Water Levels Fluctuate

Entergy officials announced that control room operators manually and safely shut down Indian Point unit 3 today upon observing fluctuating water levels inside a steam generator.

They said that operators determined that one of the unit’s condensate pumps, which is part of the system that feeds water into the plant’s steam generators, automatically shut down while the unit was operating at full power—causing water levels inside the steam generator to fluctuate.

Condensate pumps are located on the non-nuclear side of the plant. All equipment responded as designed and the plant is currently safely shut down.

Unit 2 continues operating at full power and has been online for 477 continuous days.
