NRC Holds Public Hearing On Indian Point Decommissioning
The hearing will discuss the plan the company wants to use to dismantlement the facility.

BUCHANAN, NY โ The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting to discuss and take comments about a decommissioning roadmap report for the Indian Point nuclear power plant.
The NRC said, on July 29, staff will present information on regulatory reviews and oversight of the plant that will take place during decommissioning.
Indian Point 3 permanently ceased operations April 30. Indian Point 2 was shut down one year earlier, and Indian Point, an earlier-generation plant, was taken out of service in the 1970s.

Holtec, which owns the plant, submitted a post-shutdown decommissioning activities report for Indian Point Dec. 19, 2019. The commission began a formal review of the plan when Holtec officially bought the facility from Entergy in late May. A copy of the report is available in the NRCโs electronic documents website, ADAMS, using the accession number ML19354A698.
Among other things, the plan describes the company's plans to use the immediate dismantlement approach and complete the radiological decommissioning of the site within about 15 years.
