Peekskill Man Throws Beer Bottle At Cop's Head: Police

He faces a felony charge now as well as getting a ticket for having an open container of alcohol in public.

PEEKSKILL, NY — A Peekskill man approached by police for having an open beer on Diven Street now faces charges of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He was also charged with having an open container of alcohol on the street, which is a violation of the city code.

While conducting a quality of life check on the 900 block of Diven Street, Officers Ronald Stroh and Christopher Colucci saw a man in public possession of an open container of alcohol, police allege.

A foot chase ensued. During the pursuit, the man threw the glass beer bottle he was carrying at Officer Stroh, causing laceration to the officer’s head, police said.

He was apprehended on Diven Street near its intersection with North Division Street and during his arrest, physically resisted further, requiring the arresting officer to deploy his taser.

The officer was transported to New York Presbyterian Hospital for treatment. The man, identified as Clarence Boyd, was evaluated by Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance at the station house and was found to have not sustained injury.

The 35-year-old faces charges of Assault 2 nd (assault of police officer) D-Felony; Resisting Arrest A-Misdemeanor; Obstruct Governmental Administration A-Misdemeanor; Open Container of Alcohol City Code Violation.

Following an arraignment, Boyd was sent to Westchester County Jail and is due back in court on Monday.
