Peekskill Police Make Fast Arrest After Shooting Death

A Mohegan Lake man was found dead in a car in Peekskill on Saturday.

PEEKSKILL, NY — Peekskill police made an arrest within 24 hours of the shooting death of a Mohegan Lake man on Paulding Street. A Peekskill resident was scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

Police were called to the 900 block of Paulding Street at 3 a.m. Saturday about a man reported to have been sleeping in a car for a long time.

They found Emmanuel Jordan, 27, dead. He had been shot in the chest, police said.

A crime scene was established, detectives and a K9 team were assigned, and an extensive investigation began, said Chief Donald Halmy.

Before 24 hours had passed, Peekskill police arrested 21-year -old Peekskill resident Michael Jenkins. He faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Jenkins will be arraigned via video conferencing, Halmy said.
