Peekskill Schools Complete Lead-Level Tests for Water Sources

Forty-nine locations were tested for elevated levels.

Peekskill, NY — The Peekskill Central School District said its recent water testing returned “favorable” results.

A posting by the school district on its Facebook page said the district began testing all operational corridor fountains and kitchen sinks within schools to make certain they meet Environmental Protection Agency safety standards.

Testing, to show levels of lead in water, was conducted through a partnership with the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES and the Louis Berger Company.

Only three sites out of 49 sample locations tested above the EPA’s allowable level.

One was located at Uriah Hill, with the other two at Woodside Elementary.

They were immediately taken out of service and will be remediated ove the summer with new plumbing and fixtures installed.

District officials said two were non-drinking water sources and one was a hand-washing sink.
