Progressives Visit Schumer's Peekskill Office to Protest Trump Cabinet Nominees
A group of Hudson Valley residents said they plan to hold the senator accountable for how he votes.

PEEKSKILL, NY — More than a dozen Rockland County residents joined fellow constituents from all over the Hudson Valley at Senator Chuck Schumer’s district office in Peekskill Tuesday afternoon.
They said they visited to urge Schumer to fight all of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominations that they feel threaten to roll back social, economic or environmental progress.
“In this divisive political climate, we will hold all our elected officials accountable,” said Michael Lockett of Nyack, NY. “We need Senator Schumer to commit to blocking Trumps cabinet nominees to send a message that New Yorkers won’t tolerate rolling back the progress fought for over the past decades.”

In coordination with MoveOn.org, the Working Families party and the Indivisible Guide’s National Day of Action, some 25 local residents showed up in solidarity with other local groups across the country who are visiting their senators’ offices and demanding they reject Cabinet nominees whom they called "corrupt and unqualified."
More than 10,000 people were expected to visit district offices nationwide Tuesday, organizers said.

The group, which met with the office regional director Allison Biasotti and deputy regional director Megan Glander, started off by thanking Schumer for his more progressive rhetoric of late. Afterward, organizers said the goal was to make sure the senator knows that there is a larger group of citizens watching his actions who plan to hold the senator accountable for how he votes.
For example, the group demanded an answer on why Schumer voted in favor of confirming Mike Pompeo for head of the CIA. A response from Schumer is expected by Wednesday.
