Frances Gibbs was mayor of Peekskill from 1994 to 1999

New York State Senator Pete Harckham issued the following statement today on the passing of Frances Gibbs, mayor of Peekskill from 1994 to 1999:

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Frances Gibbs, a dedicated public servant responsible for a long list of positive accomplishments in the City of Peekskill. As the city’s first woman mayor, she was a trailblazing individual who stood as a role model for so many in her community—and beyond. Frances Gibbs was an educator, an entrepreneur and a visionary leader, who helped ensure that Peekskill evolved and advanced confidently into the 21st century, ready to meet the challenges ahead, and welcome to all. She always put her family first, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to them, and all of the residents of Peekskill who were inspired by her hometown pride and tireless work on behalf of her community.”
