Fifth graders learn about healthy farming and living during Stone Barns trip

POCANTICO HILLS — The Colonial School fifth graders learned about healthy living during their field trips to Stone Barns Center.

POCANTICO HILLS — The fifth graders learned about healthy living during their field trips to Stone Barns Center.

They got to see sheep and pigs and collect the eggs from the chickens. Also they learned about agriculture at the center. The students picked spinach in the greenhouse and tasted what it’s like when it’s grown without chemicals.

Classes 5H and 5M went March 17, while class 5V visited on March 19.

Brenna Rini (5V) said, “I liked the lambs. They were adorable. I loved the gift shop. Even though our hike tired me, I still really liked it.”

Students learned a lot about farming, animals and plants. They had hands-on things to do so they didn’t get bored.

‘’I absolutely loved it,” said Amelie L’Henaff (5V). “It brought back a lot of memories because I go there every year for my mom’s birthday. I love everything. The hike’s views are amazing.”

Henry Smith (5V) said, “I really liked the plants. I enjoyed the hike because I got to see fields full of plants.”

“I loved being outside,” said Mr. Ventura. a fifth grade teacher. “It is important to know about our food. The teachers there know a lot.”

The fifth graders explored the whole farm and had fun with it. A lot of the kids say they will go again.
