Still Time to Register for Youth Summer Camps at Pelham Art Center

Here are some affordable creative camper-tunities at Pelham Art Center. It's not too late to register for any of these sessions, though some appear to be enrolling quickly. Check for availablility.

• AUGUST 5-9: TADA! THEATER CAMP 
Ages 7-14

New York City’s preeminent youth theater company returns to Pelham Art Center. TADA! is dedicated to providing students the opportunity to explore and perform in an educational, supportive, and professional environment.

Students must bring a lunch. 

Each day, groups of (no more than) 15 students make unique and exciting art together and individually. Students work with paint, drawing media, mixed media, collage, paper mache, crafts, clay, and more! Students will also participate in fun, low-pressure theatre games, yoga, and movement activities.

Snacks are provided in morning and afternoon sessions. For those attending a full day, a supervised lunch break is provided between 1-1:30pm; students must bring their lunch.

Students will create portraits using a variety of materials, learning the proportions of a “classical portrait” and mixing skin tones. All skill levels are welcome.

Children will work with an expanded variety of materials and media to create fun and interesting projects. Prints, fiber, metal, clay, and more!

Learn elements and principles of fashion design using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to
create whimsical and fashion-forward designs. All skill levels welcome to attend.

Make your own cartoon and share it with the world! Using the programs iStopMotion and iMovie, translate ideas into animated works in our beautiful media lab. Group assignments and discussions will encourage student’s creativity, cooperation, and visual thinking skills.

Create your own animated short film using Flash! This workshop will begin with a lesson on how to use Flash, including drawing and adding color. Students will learn the basics for animation, such as motion, shape tweening, and some timeline effects, as well as a brief intro to sound.

Create animals and their habitats from clay, including dragons, birds, dogs, cats and more! Includes glazing and firing.

Learn the fundamentals of art: shape, line, color, texture, etc. while creating fun and exciting projects in a variety of techniques and materials including watercolor, pastels, collage, and more!

Weaving, quilting and felting! Use fiber to create artistic, fun, and functional objects.

Students will concept, sketch and scan ideas for new products before bringing them to life, using Mac software to create color and texture. Headphones, furniture, even your toothbrush – industrial design is everywhere! No previous experience is necessary.

Investigate the arts and craft of various cultures around the world. Projects include African art: adinkra cloth printing & mask making; Asian art: origami, calligraphy scrolls; South American art: paper molas, “tin” design, worry dolls, yarn painting; Native American art: dream catchers, corn husk dolls; SW Indian: sand art; Italian art: mosaic pictures; Russian art: faux Faberge eggs and more!

Create a nautical world full of sea creatures, ships, mermaids, pirates, and more! Includes glazing and firing.

Students will learn the basics of illustrating animals, with a focus on proportions, scale, and capturing a life-like rendering. All skill levels welcome.

Design a character and watch it come to life! Animation as it was in the 1930’s! Students will discuss similarities and differences on how animation has evolved. All skill levels welcome to attend.

Throughout the ages and across the globe, artists have observed and recorded the world around them. Use cut paper and watercolor to create landscapes, crayon-resist seascapes, and collage cityscapes.
