Pelham Memorial HS Studednt Max Pine Named Intel Science Talent Search Semi-Finalist
The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is the nation's most prestigious pre-college science competition.

Max Pine, a 17-year-old student from Pelham Memorial High School, was named one of 300 semi-finalists in the nation in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search.
Pine’s entry in the contest was “Effect of Climate on the Spatial Distribution and Synchrony of Eight Irruptive Bird Species.”
“We are so proud of Max,” said Steven Beltecas, Science Research Director at the high school. “I am so happy that Max has been recognized for his tireless research, especially since birds have been his passion since first grade.”

The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition. Alumni of STS have made extraordinary contributions to science and hold more than 100 of the world’s most coveted science and math honors, including the Nobel Prize and National Medal of Science.
Annually, students entering the Intel STS compete for more than $1.6 million in awards. Only 300 students are announced as semifinalists each year. For 2015, more than 1,800 students entered the contest.

From the pool of 300, 40 finalists are then invited to Washington, DC in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for three top awards of $150,000 each.
