Is your child struggling in school? Are they having trouble reading?

It is estimated one in five children have a reading disorder. Many of these children are dyslexic.  They are bright but don't feel  intelligent.  It first manifests in the form of spelling errors and then is evident in reading and writing. These children have trouble with phonemic awareness. What does this mean? It means they might not what sound "b" makes or that "cat" blended together spells cat. Many people think dyslexia means seeing words backwards. It is actually a language based learning disability which many speech/language pathologists are trained in. It is best to learn in a multisensory manner. This involves seeing, hearing and feeling. Orton Gilllingham is the recommended learning approach. At the middle school and high school level, writing is impacted as well. It is important to work on organization as well at this age.
