Even when drinking responsibly, there’s a good chance of waking up the next day with some form of hangover.
A New York doctor says some precautions can help avoid that “morning after” feeling, but the only known cure is still simply allowing your body the time to recover.
“A hangover is a consolation of symptoms typically: headache, dizziness, fatigue, confusion and just feeling lousy,” says Dr. Alan Mensch, MD, senior vice president of medical affairs at Plainview and Syosset hospitals.

The best way to prevent a hangover is to:
- Drink in moderation;
- Eat a full meal before you start drinking with snacks in between;
- Try to avoid darker forms of alcohol they often congeners, which may cause a hangover;
- Stay hydrated. Alcohol dehydrates your body be sure to stay hydrated before, during and especially after;
- Get to know yourself. There is a genetic factor when it comes to alcohol so chances are if you’ve had a hangover before, you’ll have one again.
“The best and only known cure for a hangover is time, allowing your body to recover,” says Dr. Mensch. Take care of your specific symptoms with remedies that personally make you feel better.
