HAWTHORNE, NY — 'Tis the season for giving back to your community. There are a number of ways that you and your family can help out and help others.

Every day through Christmas, Patch will be highlighting a way you can provide compassion and resources to those in need.

Volunteer New York! makes it easy to find ways to help — through donations, supporting nonprofits and even volunteering at home.

Today's opportunity is Volunteer Food Drives. Hudson Valley Community Services, Inc., is seeking donations of nonperishable foods, toiletries and household cleaners. Anyone who is interested can organize a food collection drive at their school, club, religious organization or place of business.

Hudson Valley Community Services can assist with picking up the goods and bringing them to the Hawthorne food pantry.
