Singapore Visitors Choose Todd Elementary to Watch Their Math Program in Action
BRIARCLIFF MANOR — The chief executive officer of Singapore Math publisher Marshall Cavendish traveled halfway around the world recently to visit Todd Elementary School to see how the Singapore Math program is being used here in the States.
While many elementary schools in the country implement the Singapore Math program in their curriculum, Cavendish CEO Goh Sik Ngee and other members of his company selected Todd Elementary School for the visit.

“They wanted to observe a lesson using Math Buddies, our digital curriculum that is aligned with the Primary Mathematics textbooks,” said Todd Principal Nadine McDermott. Math Buddies is an online curriculum designed to support learning Math using the Singapore Mathematics approach.
“Math Buddies has the same principles as our Primary Mathematics textbooks, but it combines multimedia technology to enhance teaching and learning,” said Ms. McDermott.

Fourth grade teachers Lorraine McDermott and Melissa Magliulo and their class were the hosts of the visit.
“The focus of the visit was for the CEO and creator of Math Buddies to see the program in action,” said Todd teacher Ms. McDermott. “They observed students as they worked using the program.”
Ms. McDermott said that students were excited to model Math Buddies for its creators. “We felt the visitors were impressed with the integration of this new website into a whole group lesson and independent practice,” she said. “The visit was helpful for us, as we were able to debrief to discuss the creator’s vision of the program.”
