Body Found in Irvington May be Missing Woman

Flood of condolence notes sent to family as community awaits positive identification.

Irvington police received a report of a deceased person Monday in a wooded marshland just north of Matthiessen Park, a residential area in the village, police said.

"Irvington police are awaiting positive identification of the decedent, but strongly believe the remains found are those of Betty Iannarelli," police wrote in a statement released Monday night. The received the call just after 3 p.m.

Police await identification from the Westchester Medical Examiner's office. 

But even without confirmation, a deluge of condolence notes has appeared for the missing woman's family on the Facebook page dedicated to Iannarelli's search and recovery.

"Our sincerest sympathy," wrote Christine Phillips. "It is with tears in my eyes that I know your beloved mother is home. You are all so brave, take new strength and comfort in knowing Betty is at peace."

Just this morning, Iannarelli's daughter Debra wrote on Facebook: "The candle still buns bright for you Mom every day and every night. I Love You. Dear Heavenly Father, the only thing I want is my mom."
